Thematic Meeting of the Project of Promoting Low Global Warming Potential (GWP) Refrigerants in the Republic of Turkey was held in İstanbul.
SOSIAD (Association of Refrigeration Industry and Businessmen) has signed an international project conducted by the Republic of Turkey Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and with the support of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to tackle climate change. The third and last meeting of the awareness project “Eco-friendly Refrigeration in Tackling Global Warming” was held at the Fairmont Quasar Hotel, in İstanbul, Turkey, 17 December 2019.
The main goal of the project is raising awareness on using refrigerant with low GWP (Global Warming Potential). It has provided in the five predetermined pilot plants that the used refrigerant was transformed into eco-friendly alternatives as well as carrying out energy measurement and analyses of existent systems.
The workshop organized with the support of UNIDO, started with the opening speeches by Mr. Süleyman YILMAZ, the Representative of UNIDO in Turkey and the Director of the Center for Regional Cooperation; Mr. Turgay KARAKAŞ, the Chairman of the Board of SOSIAD; and Mrs. Rodica Ella IVAN, the Project Manager of the UNIDO’s Montreal Protocol Program.
The existing systems were pre-evaluated regarding energy efficiency, and it was aimed that operational parameters of the plants whose transformation was accomplished, is monitored and reported. The results of the operation after transformation through alterative refrigerants apart from HCFC with remote monitoring and new generation electronic control applications, were publicly shared in this meeting.
