UN Resident Coordinator “Türkiye takes a holistic approach to SDG action”

UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework Extended Result Group Meetings with Public Sector Partners took place in Ankara.
“Türkiye takes a holistic approach to SDG action, integrating them into NDPs and sectoral strategies” said UN Resident Coordinator Alvaro Rodriguez.
Speaking at the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF 2021-2025) Extended Result Group Meetings with Public Sector Partners co-hosted by United Nations Country Team in Türkiye and the Presidency of Strategy and Budget Rodriguez said “As the UN system in Türkiye, we are ready and are committed to support Türkiye’s efforts in advancing SDGs.”
The Resident Coordinator underscored Türkiye’s efforts in combatting climate change citing ratification of the Paris Agreement, cenvenig of the first ever Climate Council which brought together the respective state and non-state actors across the country on a common agenda for a national climate action, the launch of the Green Development Revolution as well as the launch of the Green Deal Action Plan for Türkiye.
“The Government’s intention to announce the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) at the COP27, which is taking place these days in Egypt is also very promising” he said.
Moderating the meeting attended by more than 300 UN and public institution representatives Bülent Açıkgöz, Partnerships and Development Finance Manager at the UN Türkiye Resident Coordinater Office said that the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) covering the period 2021-2025 is implemented in cooperation with Turkish Government and the United Nations in Türkiye.
"The UNSDCF was prepared in harmony with the national sustainable development priorities determined within the scope of the 11th Development Plan of Türkiye, with the general aim of contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals," said Açıkgöz.
Also speaking at the opening of the meeting Department Head at Ministry of Foreign Affairs Aslı Güven said they appreciate the contribution of UN agencies in Türkiye’s development efforts. “As the Ministry of Foreign Affairs we will continue to faciliatete this fruitfull cooperation between UN agencies and public institutions” she said.
Selçuk Koç, Director General at the Presidency of Strategy and Budget talked about the International Development Cooperation Information System developed by their Presidency. He stated that the system, together with the UN Info database, will provide access to up-to-date data. Koç stated they are glad to see that the UN agencies use the system and that their Presidency will continue to further develop it. Expressing his satisfaction with the extended results group meeting, Koç noted that the meeting will provide a platform where current projects and future activities can be discussed.M
For implementation of the UNSDCF 6 Results Groups of UN Türkiye are continuing their work. These groups are Social Inclusion Result Group chaired by UNICEF, Women’s Empowerment Result Group chaired by UN Women, Migration, International Protection and Harmonisation Result Group chaired by UN Refugee Agency, Competitive Production, Inclusive and Sustainable Growth, Decent Work for All Result Group chaired by ILO, Good Governance Result Group and Climate change, Sustainable Environment, and Liveable Cities Result Group chaired by UNDP.
