Black Sea Grain Initiative - Joint Coordination Centre Operational Update (28 August)

28 August 2022, ISTANBUL – The Joint Coordination Centre (JCC) authorized today the movement of three outbound vessels carrying a total of 72,985 metric tons of grain and food products under the Black Sea Grain Initiative. 

The three commercial vessels authorized to move tomorrow, 29 August, are: 

1) KARTERIA (IMO 9236092) from Yuhzny/Pivdennyi to Türkiye, carrying 37,500 metric tons of wheat. This grain is purchased by the World Food Programme. It will be milled to flour in Türkiye and it will then be loaded onto a new ship that will head to Yemen. 

2) PEACE M (IMO 9086318) from Odesa to Constanta, Romania, carrying 24,485 metric tons of corn.

3) ASH BALTIC (IMO 9606493) from Odesa to El Dekhela, Egypt, carrying 11,000 metric tons of corn.

In addition, ANASTASIA (IMO 8926121) from Chornomorsk to Türkiye, carrying 3,800 metric tons of wheat, was delayed in its scheduled departure of today and she is now scheduled to leave Ukraine on 29 August.

Destinations indicated are based on information received at the JCC and may change based on commercial activity. 

As of 28 August, the total tonnage of grain and other foodstuffs exported from the three Ukrainian ports is 1,249,780 metric tons. A total of 114 voyages (62 inbound and 52 outbound) have been enabled so far. 

The JCC concluded inspections today on five commercial vessels: three inbound LADY EVA (IMO 9008110), MAINA (IMO 9699892), and SPRING (IMO 8408650), and two outbound: AVIVA (IMO 9410131) and SEAEAGLE (IMO 9153056). The inspection of PRETTY LADY (IMO 9223174) was postponed to 29 August. 

The joint teams plan nine inspections tomorrow: four inbound vessels BC CALLISTO (IMO 9400916), MRC LINA (IMO 9462299), NEW LEVANT (IMO 9111371), and SARA (IMO 9259020), and five outbound vessels ADNAN TORLAK (IMO 9243253), ORIS SOFI also known as MELA ROSSA (IMO 8920282), PRETTY LADY (IMO 9223174), S BREEZE (IMO 9317145), and ZELEK STAR (IMO 9379117).

As per procedures agreed at the JCC, all participants coordinate with their respective military and other relevant authorities to ensure the safe passage of commercial vessels under the Black Sea Grain Initiative. 

The JCC monitors closely the passage of commercial vessels through the maritime humanitarian corridor. 

Note to editors: The Joint Coordination Centre was established under the Black Sea Grain Initiative in Istanbul on 27 July 2022. It comprises senior representatives from the Russian Federation, Türkiye, Ukraine and United Nations and its role is to enable the safe transportation, by merchant ships, of grain and other foodstuffs and fertilizers from three key Ukrainian ports in the Black Sea to the rest of the world.
