Participants from different cities, but their worries are the same: Wherever they are, they feel the effects of climate change closely in their daily lives.
Prior to the Climate Envoys Workshop, youth from all over Turkey participated in the 2053 Vision of Combating Climate Change and Social Expectations Survey organized jointly by the United Nations Turkey and the Climate Change Presidency of the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change (MEUC)
The survey was part of a series of events related to the Climate Council which have been led by the MEUC.
Survey participants emphasized that they feel the climate change closely in their daily lives, but drought, temperature increase and low productivity in agriculture are the first three worries for them.
Another point highlighted in the survey is that the majority of the participants access news and information about climate change through social media. It reveals the importance of ensuring the dissemination of correct information on social media.
According to the results of the survey, the fight against climate change should be carried out with the contribution the society as whole, from the state to individuals, from universities and non-governmental organizations to the private sector.
In order to reach the zero emission target, participants think that priority should be given to the renewable energy.
Young people who participated in the survey urge everybody to "fight together for a better and livable world" because they “are the last generation to prevent climate change". Their call shows that they will put all their strength to be successful in the race against the climate crisis
United Nations sees young people not only as the leaders of the future, but also as its partners, and the participation of youth in the fight against climate change will contribute significantly to achieving UN’s goal, a better world for all.
