UN Turkey Country Team members and staff led by UN RC Alvaro Rodriguez visited Anıtkabir on the occasion of 76th Anniversary of the UN.
United Nations Country Team and staff of United Nations Turkey visited Anıtkabir (Atatürk’s mauseloum) today for commemorating UN’s 76th anniversary.
The ceremony at Anıtkabir began as the UN delegation led by United Nations Turkey Resident Coordinator a.i. Alvaro Rodriguez walked on the Lion Road.
UN delegation first laid a wreath at Atatürk’s mausoleum and observed a minute of silence.
Rodriguez penned down his comments in the Memorial Notebook at the Misak-ı Millî Tower.
Rodriguez stated that this year the UN is marking its 76th anniversary at a time when the World faces multiple crises.
“And, we have a new enemy, “infodemic”. It has the potential to undermine the efforts to respond to climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic all around the world” he wrote.
“You said ‘For everything in the world, for civilization, for life, for success, science is the only true guide. Seeking a guide outside of science is delusion, ignorance, and a mistake’” continued his message Rodriguez.
“Our Common Agenda for a greener, more sustainable and more peaceful future urges that science-based facts should lead our efforts to address global problems” he added.
UN Resident Coordinator ended his message writing “Your vision continues to light the path for a better world for all.”
