UN Country Team in Turkey issued a message on the forest fires that effected a wide area in country’s Mediterranean coastline.
In its message UN Turkey extended its condolences to the people and Government of Turkey.
The message reads as follows:
We are deeply saddened by the destruction caused to human life, property as well as nature by forest fires in Turkey and elsewhere.
We extend our condolences to the families of the victims, as well as to the people and Government of Turkey. We wish those injured a speedy recovery.
We are confident as in past disasters that the Government of Turkey will address the needs of the affected populations.
These events come shortly after the devastating floods in Artvin and amidst a wave of climate-driven disasters all around the world. A few months before the Glasgow Conference of Parties, these remind us of how urgent it is for all nations and people to combat climate change.
