Turkish Ministry of Environment and Urbanization Has Met With 100 Students from 3 Vocational Schools Located in Konya for an Event on Protection of Ozone Layer
Monitoring national and international studies on the Montreal Protocol are carried out in coordination with the UNIDO
The first intergovernmental relations for reduction of Ozone Depleting Substances (ODS) has begun in 1981. This attempt finalized with the agreement on Vienna Convention on the Protection of the Ozone Layer on March, 1985.
On 16th September 1987, the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer was signed. Our country, Turkey, became a party to the protocol in 19th December 1991.
Monitoring national and international studies on the Montreal Protocol are carried out in coordination with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) under the coordination of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization.
On 4th March 2020, an awareness event on ozone layer depletion substances & F-gas and environmental aspects was conducted in cooperation with the Ministry of Education under the coordination of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization. 100 students and their teachers from Vocational Schools in Konya participated in this informative event. Fundamental information on the ozone layer, F-gases and climate change was given and brief video shows were made for the participants. Ms. Feray YÜMÜN, the head of Clean Air Center of South Central Anatolia, made a presentation on the effects of air pollution on climate change. Mr. Turhan KARAKAYA, the Chairman of the Board of Air Conditioning Refrigeration Education Consultation and Research Association (İSEDA), emphasized the need for qualified technicians in the sector and the importance of their profession by informing and encouraging students about sector related opportunities.
20TH OZONE PANEL WAS ORGANIZED ON 5 MARCH 2020 WITH THE PARTICIPATION OF SECTOR REPRESENTATIVES
The Ozone Panel has been held for 20 years to inform the refrigeration-air conditioning, heat pump, fire protection and electrical switchgear industries. This year, 20th Ozone Panel was held on 5 March 2020 in Konya.
In the panel, information and recent legislative developments on F-gases which are alternative to the ozone depleting substances (ODS) and their management was shared with the related sector representatives. Ms. Hülya TOKLU from Vocational Qualifications Authority (VQA) made a presentation on studies on vocational qualifications conducted under VQA and on national competence of technicians who contact with F-gases. Following this presentation, Mr. Kürşat BACANLI from Turkish Standards Institution (TSI) shared the information on the national standards prepared for certification of legal persona with the participants.
A presentation was made on the outcomes of a project conducted by the Association of Refrigeration Industry Businessmen (ARIB) with the contributions of the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization and UNIDO “Promotion and Pilot Activities Demonstration Project” by Mr. Kıvanç ASLANTAŞ from ARIB. Participants excited with the striking outcomes of this project conducted for the first time in this field in Turkey.
At the last presentation, Mr. Barış UÇANER, UNIDO national consultant, shared HFCs Assessment Consumption Survey Report in Turkey and statistical information for the future projection with the participants.
20th Ozone Panel was successfully completed by taking the questions from the participants with the Panel held in the last section of the program.
