UN Türkiye Country Team members and staff led by UN RC Alvaro Rodriguez visited Anıtkabir on the occasion of 77th Anniversary of the UN.
United Nations Country Team and staff of United Nations Türkiye visited Anıtkabir (Atatürk’s mausoleum) today for commemorating UN’s 77th anniversary.
The ceremony at the mausoleum began as the UN delegation led by United Nations Türkiye Resident Coordinator Alvaro Rodriguez walked on the Lion Road.
UN delegation first laid a wreath at Atatürk’s mausoleum and observed a minute of silence.
Following Rodriguez penned down his comments in the Memorial Notebook at the Misak-ı Millî Tower.
Rodriguez stated that in today’s world there are multiple crises, including climate emergency, conflicts, polarization and increasing intolerance, hate speech and racism.
“Visiting Anıtkabir during such times refreshes our belief and hope that our work to make the world a better place for all is an achievable target. Because you were an outstanding leader who created the modern Türkiye and has strived for international understanding, cooperation and peace.” he wrote.
“You were an innovative reformer. You were one of the first leaders to fight against expansionism, respected human rights, believed in gender equality, and encouraged states to seek world peace” continued his message Rodriguez.
UN Resident Coordinator ended his message writing “Your ideals continue to guide us in our pursuit for international peace, cooperation, and development.
